We, the Lions of Hinesburg, Vermont, are part of that tradition. Our Hinesburg Lions Club was chartered in 1996 and was sponsored by the Vergennes (Vermont) Lions Club. Currently we have 18 members and welcome new members at any time. We meet monthly at Hinesburg's Papa Nick's Restaurant on the second and fourth Tuesday.

We do not meet in July and August. Instead, from June through September, we run a farmers' market every Thursday from 3:30-6:30 pm, rain or shine.
The Hinesburg Lions Farmers' Market offers local vendors a venue to sell their products and to give the public an opportunity to purchase locally-grown foods, prepared foods and handcrafted products.

Locally, besides our summer farmers' market, we raise funds by sponsoring a valentine raffle, sell American flags and ducks at Hinesburg's annual 4th of July duck race and sell raffle tickets to support our Thanksgiving gift basket project. We also support the Hinesburg Food Shelf, offer eye/ear exams and glasses to those who can't afford them and help to supply needy children at the Hinesburg Community School with Christmas gift certificates for foor and presents. Annually we present a senior high school graduate with a scholarship for study at a college or a technical school. We also run a Children's Easter Egg Hunt each spring.

In addition, we send money to our state organization to assist the Austine Summer Camp and School for the Deaf (in Brattleboro, Vermont), to run diabetes testing clinics and for training seeing eye dogs for the blind.

We collect eyeglasses and hearing aids which are sent to third world countries for those needing them. Medical doctors and personnel examine and fit the collected glasses and hearing aids to persons in these countries. In the last decade, LIONS INTERNATIONAL supported the hurricane victims of Katrina as well as the citizens displaced by the tsunami flooding in Indonesia. Lions everywhere stand ready to assist persons in distress wherever and whenever the need arises throughout the world.
